Week 30 — 24 June 2022

We're not sure how he finds the time, but LogoLounge founder Bill Gardner has, as he does every year, reviewed 35,000 logo design submissions from over 200 countries, pulling out the dominant design themes and recurring patterns. Top trends for logos in '22 include: Bow ties, Uvulas, Rooters, Loopers and Pinched. Don't expect us to explain them all here... Click the link and do the scroll.

Colour is the new black! ➜

Sticking with design trends, get set to see a whole world of more colourful type. Yes, colour or chromatic fonts are set to become your digital designers new best friend. With Chrome being the final major browser to start supporting colour fonts (via COLRv1 standards) expect to see lots more colourful type with gradients, compositing and blending. To hell with contrast, legibility and accessibility, let's paint the internet a typographic rainbow.

Are these the best 100 ads ever? ➜

It's a bold claim, but readers of The Drum were asked to choose their favourite ads ever. Then leading Creative Directors alongside The Drum's Judges' Club ranked the chosen ads and assembled them into a new top 100. It's a deep but very rewarding dive, so be warned, if you don't have time to torch, this is not the link for you.

Shall we call him Billy? ➜

Appreciative nod to this clever campaign from IKEA Norway. One of the (perhaps not too surprising) outcomes of the pandemic, was an inflated birth rate. Yep a future generation will be known in marketing terms as Pandemials. OK, we might have made that up, but IKEA has creatively referenced their back catalogue of products as an inspo source of names for expectant parents.

Micro-aggressive much? ➜

The official claim of The Micropedia is that it's a resource to learn more about social and cultural micro-aggressions and their impact. In reality it's seems, in places, to be something of a wokeness wildfire. Regardless of ones sensibilities and sensitivities though, it's worth a click just to check out the super-slick UX design.
