Most business-minded folk accept, that in a competitive world, good branding is more important than ever. Yet, we can sometimes find it difficult to articulate why. Some enlightening, surprising and – as the title of the piece suggests – eye-opening stats here, to show precisely why it's so important for business bottom lines.

Talking of enlightening and er somewhat frightening (at least for those of us who grew up wanting to be sports stars and movie gods), this Harpers long read on the rise of TikTok mansions is a richly rewarding article. Not just for the expose into what is unquestionably a brave new world, but also the intimate insight into the mindsets of the young people riding the rocket.

Design is good. Design for good is even better. This interesting article shows some distinctly different brand and visual approaches taken to marketing a new-age product: plant-based chewing gum. Traditional gum contains plastic, you see, like polyethylene – and worse than it getting mashed into the treads of your fave kicks – it takes a ridiculously long time to degrade. So, we're wholly embracing our designer brethren in eschewing, not chewing, the plastic.

Christiano v's Coke. Big brand dominance buys the influence, favour and, sometimes it feels, morality of celebrities with ease these days (we're looking at you Mr Lineker). So it was refreshing to see Ronaldo, with literally a wave of his hand, devalue coca-cola by billions in favour of good old unbranded corporation pop. His mum must be proud.
