Week 20 — 29 October 2021

And so does Hotjar. Already a brilliant utility tool for optimising websites, with heat maps, session recordings and user feedback surveys straight out-of-the-box, it more recently impressed us by defining the term ‘rage click’ and they have now adapted their software to allow site owners to track its occurrence. So, next time you find your fingers hammering a keypad in abject frustration at a website which refuses to bend to your will, that right there will be your (now trackable) rage click.

Mastercard goes multisensory ➜

In our virtual age, having a tangible, tactile product could be seen as a chance to place a brand literally into the hands of an audience. Perhaps unusual then that Mastercard chose to remove its brand name from its cards and all other advertising in 2019. Even odder, in what seems an unprovoked sensory assault, the payment giant is now foisting its own melody, music collections and custom scents called Priceless: Passion and Optimism (euughh) upon us! Have they've lost their sense of judgement?

Schlong Covid! ➜

Yep, this is what it sounds like. What initially struck us as school-yard wordplay for a clickbait headline win is in fact a boner-fide (sorry, couldn't help that) thing. This campaign for Urologists United for Vaccine Education is based on the following fact: Men who have had Covid-19 are six times more likely to develop erectile dysfunction. Now we are a wholesome church here at Drumbeat but even we don't mind lowering the tone with dick jokes if it encourages jab take up.

Website turns blogs into videos in seconds ➜

Lumen5 claims to turn blog posts into videos within a few clicks. Great for refrying existing content into a new format and even testing that out across new channels. The good: It actually does just that. The interface is slick and the video is compiled within moments. The bad: The range of templates is pretty restrictive and customisation takes way more time. The ugly: It's not a human, so treats language very literally. If you're happy for your video on the best tools for social media managers to feature footage of a hammer and chisel, it's OK; otherwise we'd wait a while for the machine to do a little more learning.
